SWEAD is a small registered Indian Charitable organisation based in Tamilnadu one of the twenty eight states and seven union territories of India. Its field of action spans the Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu in south India
Legal Status 1. SWEAD has been registered under Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 27th of 1975 and got the registration No 3/1994 dated 20-01-1994. 2. It has been registered under Forgion contribution regulation Act 1976 under Govt. of India and has the registration No 076010148 dated 08-03-2000.
Mission SWEAD works with women and children whose lives are dominated by extreme poverty, illiteracy, disease and other handicaps. With multifaceted development interventions, SWEAD strives to bring about positive change in the quality of life of the poor women and children of Cuddalore region of Tamilnadu, SWEAD firmly believes and is actively involved in promoting dignity and gender equality through poor people's social, economic, political and human capacity building. Although the emphasis of SWEAD work is at the individual level and village level sustaining the work of the organisation depends on an environment that permits the poor to break out of the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. To this end, SWEAD endeavors to bring about change at the level of national policy on poverty reduction and health, SWEAD is committed to making its programmes socially, financially and environmentally sustainable, using new methods and improved technologies. Poverty reduction programmes undertaken so far have bypassed many of the poorest. In this context one of SWEAD main focuses is the ultra poor women. With multifaceted development interventions, SWEAD strives to bring about changes in the quality of life of these women and children.
Holistic Development For SWEAD, development includes the four aspects which influences the life of each women being political, Economical, Social and Cultural. In each one of the actions engaged by SWEAD. These four aspects are taken into account in order to promote a holistic development of which the women being is but a link. So development, when associated with any society will now be defined in its entirely as a process of adaptation and change of evolution inscribed thought time. It is no longer a goal to be reached that can be decided in advance by external agents.
Ethics: " In a global environment , ethics must be included in the notion of development, A code of Ethics includes recognition of the importance of dignity, Justice and equality for women, without which a popular (GLOBAL) economic Prosperity cannot be ensured" Target People The most marginalized and oppressed sections of society; they are mainly tribal, Dalits (untouchables) Scheduled Casts, rural Migratory Women and Children who live below the poverty line. Working with people who live in these extreme conditions is particularly difficult. Financial Partners SWEAD searches for the support of financial partners in setting up long term employment, which highlights trust, sharing of Ideas, Objectives and most important understanding of the ground realities as well as the Socio cultural elements of Indian Society. SWEAD Expects Donor agency to follow their project through to its completion. This has its own risk when working with oppressed women struggling to defend their basic elementary rights.
